An Every Day Choice

Milk & Honey

Sometimes we just need peace and quiet.  This world is noisy.  Even our own lives are noisy.  Ringing, honking, sirens, bells, alarms, chatter, music, on and on the list goes.  Stealing away from all the things of life and people pulling at us is hard.  How do we shut out the noise?

I find it difficult, but we are given an example in scripture of how to do just that.  Several times, a glimpse of Jesus going off by Himself to pray is provided.  He pulled Himself away:

from His friends and family,

from those who needed His help

from those wanting to hear more of His stories.

He set an example for us.

He knew we would need to see this retreat in action, because walking away from all the noise and needs is so hard to do.

What prevents you from getting away and finding a quiet place to be with Him?  I struggle with my calendar ruling my days.  I have many vying for the moments I have open.  Demands are everywhere.  Do you struggle, too?  Trying to prioritize time with Him is a battle every day.  This is where I win or lose this battle: is He first?

On the days I seek and spend time with Him before I let anything else distract me, I am amazed.  I have more peace, more space and time for others, more gets accomplished and I feel the “struggle” is less.  I have no other way of explaining how this works.  My time with Him is the only common denominator in the equation.  So I ask, are you willing to accept the challenge and give it a try?

Maybe I should ask you this way…What do you have to lose?  The worst case scenario, you feel you wasted 10+ minutes.  At best, it sets your day on a completely different trajectory.

The choice is ours every day.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.
